Rodney Brooks grades his own AI predictions every year until 2050

Rodney Brooks, the roboticist and former MIT AI Lab director, made dated predictions on January 1, 2018, and reviews them publicly every year. In his 2025 update he writes that it is his “seventh annual update on how my dated predictions from January 1st, 2018…have held up,” that he “promised then to review them at the start of the year every year until 2050,” and that the idea “is to hold myself accountable for those predictions.” He notes he has “not changed any of the text of the first three columns of the prediction tables since their publication” and only updates a fourth column “to say what actually happened.” The exercise stands as a rare, self-imposed accountability mechanism for AI forecasting.
