Waymo announces Singapore, with a public robotaxi launch planned for 2028

On September 17, 2026, Waymo announced it is coming to Singapore, working with the country’s Ministry of Transport and Land Transport Authority (LTA). The plan is staged: a fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles arrives and local operations are set up in the coming months, 2027 is a readiness phase with manual driving and adaptation to local conditions, and a public commercial launch is targeted for 2028.

Waymo framed the move on the strength of its US record, citing more than 20 million fully autonomous rides and over 300 million kilometers driven autonomously in US cities. Outside the US, it names Tokyo, London and Munich among the places it is operating or launching. Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana called Singapore “one of the safest, most efficient transport ecosystems,” and Singapore’s Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow said Waymo “brings world-class technology and will create new transport options and jobs here.”

Why it matters: it extends Waymo’s international push into Southeast Asia with a government that is an explicit partner rather than just a permit issuer, and adds another dense, left-hand-traffic city after Tokyo and London. What it does not show is any driverless service yet: nothing will carry public riders in Singapore until 2028 on Waymo’s own timeline, and the announcement gives no fleet size, service area or regulatory approval details.
