Greg Brockman

Greg Brockman is a software engineer and entrepreneur who co-founded OpenAI in 2015 and serves as its president. On his personal site he describes himself simply: “I love to build.” Before OpenAI, he was an early employee and chief technology officer of Stripe, where, in his words, he helped “build it from 4 to 250 employees.”

At OpenAI, Brockman has been a hands-on technical leader, closely involved in the systems and training runs behind the organization’s flagship projects. His site links to OpenAI work including Gym, OpenAI Five, the OpenAI API, Codex, and the large language models that followed, reflecting his focus on the engineering and infrastructure that make large-scale model training possible.

Brockman briefly left and returned to OpenAI during the November 2023 board crisis that also removed and reinstated CEO Sam Altman, an episode that underscored his central role in the organization. He remains one of the company’s most visible technical voices.
